Mail

Receive and send email on your domain.

Mail runs on one chosen computer (a node, or the solo machine). The lead accepts incoming mail on port 25 and sends outgoing mail from the same public IP.

Before you start

Name the mail host

Pick a hostname such as mail.example.com. Create a DNS A record from that name to the lead’s public IP. Turn off any CDN proxy (orange cloud in Cloudflare). Mail must hit the IP directly.

Your ISP assigns one reverse name to that public IP. That reverse name must exist, and looking it up must return the same IP. The mail hostname above must also resolve to that IP. SRV will not start mail until this check passes.

You cannot put two different reverse names on one IP. If the ISP already set the reverse name to something else, either use that name as the mail hostname or ask them to change it.

Create the mail site

  1. Admin site → Sites → New site.
  2. Kind: daisiMail (mail).
  3. Give it a short slug, for example dmail.
  4. Hosts: the mail hostname, for example mail.example.com.
  5. Mailbox domain: example.com (you can attach more domains later).
  6. Pinned node: the Ready computer that will store mailboxes.
  7. Create. The site stays Stopped until the address check succeeds. That is expected.

Prove the public address

  1. Open the mail site → Mail go-live.
  2. Mail hostname: mail.example.com.
  3. Public IP: the lead’s public address.
  4. Click Verify PTR. Fix DNS and wait for it to update if it fails.

Publish mail DNS

After the check passes, still on the site page:

  1. Enter the lead public IP again if asked.
  2. Click Publish mail DNS. That writes MX, SPF, and DKIM at the DNS provider attached to the domain.
  3. If you manage DNS yourself, copy the same records by hand. MX should point at mail.example.com, not at a proxied name.

Start mail and open admin

  1. Start the site.
  2. In a browser go to https://mail.example.com/admin (or the HTTP name you bound).
  3. Enter your Daisinet email, then the code. The Daisinet Admin role can create mailboxes and tokens.

One mail site per cluster. Attach extra mailbox domains under Domains; they all use the same public IP and the same reverse name.
